WOODSTOCK GROWERS

The Ellingham family are born and bred in the country, and are now growing grapes and fruit in Hawke's Bay. Their Ohiti Road block has 10 acres of fully certified organic apples and 30 acres of organic grapes.

Their York lease orchard has 5 acres of fully certified organic Granny Smith and Red Delicious apples.

There are two lease blocks growing organic apples. One of the orchards was one of the first two Bio-gro certified commercial apple orchards in Hawke's Bay in 1997. Stockgate is the main orchard property growing fully certified apples, pears, peaches, nectarines and plums.

Recently Woodstock Growers began growing indoor and outdoor vegetables on their property in Omahu Road. Previously a flower growing operation the greenhouses and land have been converted to organic and are growing tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and pumpkins.

Bruce and Diana are growing all their fruit organically, and while summerfruit is a challenge, they are strong in their conviction to grow it all organic. The rainfall in Hawke's Bay around harvest time puts extreme disease pressure on organic stonefruit, extra measures are taken to ensure the highest quality of fruit can be delivered to the market without the traditional heavy use of pesticides.
